August 1, 1969, at the International Hotel in Las Vegas. This candid portrait shows a natural, relaxed Elvis, yet ready to conquer Sin City. The use of pastels is ideal here to convey the heat of that August in Nevada. I was able to play with the light to sculpt his face, capturing that unique aura that emanated from him, on and off stage.
